Young Ideas give Bees a harsh lesson in ABC

Young Ideas FC’s drive of more than 210km from Port Elizabeth to Bhisho was not in vain after they killed the ABC Motsepe League title dreams for EC Bees courtesy of a convincing 3-1 victory at the Bhisho Stadium yesterday.

Not only that but through the victory the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro side added salt to a Bees wound that had been opened only three days ago when they bombed out of the Nedbank Cup Last 32 last Saturday.

The Bhisho outfit, following yesterday’s loss, may have to kiss the league title goodbye for they needed to win to stay in the race.

The title chase is now a four-team race between Lion City, FC Elliot, Mdantsane-based Tornado and Zimbane Killers.

Whatever Bees do in the remaining matches will have no effect in bringing them back to the race, at least realistically unless a miracle happens.

This they know too well if the body language of the club’s directors after the referee blew his final whistle is anything to go by.

One of the club directors, who could not be immediately identified by name, was so furious that as the Daily Dispatch tried to locate Bees coach Chippa Njedu for the post-match interview, he shouted: “that coach you are looking for is going to be fired”.

Bees though have got only themselves to blame after letting the match that they controlled so well in the opening stanza slip through their fingers in the second half.

The Bhisho side dictated play throughout the first 45 and took a 1-0 lead going to the interval thanks to Siyabonga Booi’s wonderful strike.

Their only failure was not to score more since they had the wind advantage.

Ideas would show them how it is done as they took advantage of the weather conditions in the last 45 as Bees battled opposing the wind.

Barely 10 minutes from the break, Bees brought down an Ideas player inside their penalty box and Aphiwe Mambukwe made no mistake from the spot kick.

Then the flood gates opened for the visitors as Amazulu Ngcoza followed that up with a goal of the year contender – a 30m drive to put his side 2-1.

Ayanda Manengele would put the final nail in the coffin by lobbing the ball into the back of an open net following a poor clearance by the Bees goalkeeper.

A frustrated Njedu, following some tongue lashing by club directors was speechless, only able to utter six words of a man in trouble: “I do not know what happened.”

Bees remain fifth on the log standings with 11 points behind the solid and consistent Lion City who are holding on to the table summit.
