Tornado handed Future Tigers their heaviest defeat

If Tornado FC do not win the ABC Motsepe League 2015/2016 championship, they will deservedly earn the tag of being the most inconsistent and unlucky side in the league.

The Mdantsane-based club are playing their best football yet, particularly as the race for the championship is fast approaching with only eight matches left to play.

Thobela Bikwani’s charges handed Future Tigers their heaviest defeat yet courtesy of a 10-0 victory at the weekend. This Tornado did in style in unfriendly conditions as the Sisa Dukashe Stadium pitch was waterlogged following heavy rains.

From the opening whistle to the end, the hapless Tigers were chasing shadows as the rampant home side attacked aggressively in non-stop fashion.

Bikwani does not want to say if his side will win the league or not. “At this stage, all I can say is we are taking it one game at a time,” he said, in typical football coach response when they do not want to commit themselves.

Bikwani reiterated that it was game over for entertaining football and showboating for Tornado. Instead, from now on direct attacking football would take centre stage.

The Tigers thumping was the first stage of the new tactical approach and it worked well.

Nigerian striker Samuel Aneka alone scored five while Dumisani Dlamlenze contributed two, as did Samkelo Lumko, while Sanele Dukada scored a single goal.

The Tornado goalkeeper was on holiday during the entire 90 minutes with Tigers having spent the whole first 45 minutes playing in their own half.

Tigers coach Xolisa Zenzile reacted: “I blame the pitch conditions. Actually this match was supposed to be stopped because there was water all over,” he complained.

However, the Tornado team that put 10 past the Tigers’ goal- posts had to play while overcoming the same conditions.

Zenzile changed his excuse: “We were playing with young players who are all U23s,” he said.

About the waterlogged field and how Tornado overcame the conditions, Bikwani said: “Unlike other teams who do not practise when it is raining, we do. We trained on Tuesday when it was also pouring and that is why we managed to play under abnormal pitch conditions.”
