Eastern Cape sweltering under heat

Sweltering conditions along the Eastern Cape Coast and adjacent interior have reached extremely uncomfortable levels.

Port Elizabeth is experiencing a temperature of 36°C with a humidity level of 30% which equates to a discomfort index of in excess of 105.

According to the Weather Guru Facebook page‚ at this level school sport should be stopped as well as any hard labour.

“Coastal stations from Plettenberg Bay to Port Alfred have registered similar temperatures.

“Over the adjacent interior in places like Addo and Uitenhage temperatures are in excess of 36°C‚” the post read.

The rest of this coming week is expected to be warm with maximum temperatures of above 26°C.

“Although slight cooling on Tuesday‚ maximum temperatures will rise to around 34°C on Thursday.”

In East London the maximum temperatures is 32 degrees celcius. Mthatha is at 31 degrees while Queenstown is on 28 degrees.

The first signs of real cooling can be expected over the weekend with some rain.

According to Weather SA‚ when temperature and humidity are high at the same time‚ humans’ ability to cool their bodies through sweating are reduced. This can be a real threat. - Tiso Black Star Group Digital/The Herald
