Chippa boss plans to ambush Stars

Chippa United coach Dan “Dance” Malesela says a big surprise awaits Platinum Stars when the sides lock horns in a league fixture at Isaac Wolfson Stadium in KwaZakhele tomorrow afternoon.

The Chilli Boys have been without a win in five league matches with a recent 1-0 loss to Polokwane City in their last fixture.

Malesela had to do some reshuffling in an attempt to break their dry spell in the league.

“We are going to make quite a number of changes to the team. I am keeping that close to my chest because it must be a surprise,” he said.

“It’s about three positions that we will make changes. They are technical changes because we are coming to the end of the season so it’s also for the future of the club.

“It’s for the benefit of the club so we will make those changes in trying also to build for next season.”

The former Orlando Pirates captain said not being able to collect maximum points in their previous league games has put them under pressure.

Malesela said every game now is a must-win.

“We have put pressure on ourselves with the three draws that we had plus the loss. We could have been a bit relaxed now with the top eight thing.

“Now we have put ourselves under pressure and every game that we have is a must-win for us because the gaps are very close,” he said.

The coach said everybody in the team was under pressure and his team needed just one win and the other victories will come their way.

“But with what I saw as a response from the players during last week was quite promising. The eagerness to want to win.

“There’s a change now in our team because the understanding was not there. We need to keep possession but at the end of it we all should be scoring goals.

“So we have that, as in the hunger to want to score goals. We had a session where one side scored six goals.

“If that is anything to go by then we have a very good chance of winning the game,” said Malesela.

There have been a number of talks going around about certain Chippa United players that are set to move next season.

Captain James Okwuosa, Ugonna Uzochukwu and Aristide Bancé are set to exit the Port Elizabeth-based club team.

But Chippa coach said he is not worried about the news.

“I wouldn’t say worried because I don’t have official word as to who is leaving and who is not. But it’s normal for people to leave,” he said.

Malesela said he would only get a chance to speak to the players after their Bidvest Wits game.

“What I normally do personally is that I call in players towards the end and let them know if we are going to keep them or not and they must tell me as well if they want to leave.”
