Home and dry for the Pretorian army

There's one thing Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane missed in this season’s race for the Absa Premiership title.

“I missed Stuart Baxter in the race. I like it when he is in the mix,” said Mosimane after Sundowns clinched the title with a 3-0 victory over University of Pretoria on Wednesday.

He added: “I told you I am going to go get it . People were thinking I am emotional when I said it, but it was not emotions. I know the security code, so I go get it.”

Mosimane stuck to his promise that he would not sign a whole host of players like Sundowns have done in the past and it worked well for him.

Dolly came in after a season-long loan at Ajax and immediately struck a devastating partnership with Billiat. They were joined by Castro and together they became the “CBD”, the deadliest attack in the league.

Together they have scored 24 goals in the league, but they have had some great support from Hlompho Kekana, who is on an impressive five goals for a holding midfielder.

“We cannot ignore the CBD. They have done very well. I told them that if they want to win the league, they must deliver against the big teams.”

On the bench, Mosimane has football brains that have helped him on the journey to his second league title. Assistant coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena have played a big role and he praised them for their contribution.
