It’s down to business for fiery clubs

Club hockey is back on the agenda after a few weekends break as the second weekend of fixtures is battled out across the region.A total of 19 matches are set to be played, including a rescheduled match on Monday night, with games played at Kat Leisure Park, Buffalo Flats astro, Stutterheim and King William’s Town.

The main premier division will see five matches played with three in the women’s division today and two on the men’s side tomorrow.

The pick of the women’s matches should be the Bohs Premiership team against Old Boys at 6pm at Kat Leisure Park. The Bohs Prem side have played a game this season, beating their seconds, while Old Boys have also played just once, beaten by Bohs seconds.

“We are really looking forward to the game, our first game of the season was a bit shaky and we did not play too well, but we have been training hard and have a few players back so we feel much better going into this match,” said Old Boys captain Jenna McNamara.

Other women’s premiership matches see Buffs up against Bohs seconds at 3pm and Parkside against Phoenix at 7.30pm, both games at Kat Leisure.

On the men’s side Old Boys and Parkside are fronting up in what could be a blockbuster matchup at Kat Leisure at 2.30pm tomorrow.

Both teams should be vying for the championship come end of the season so a positive result against a big rival will give both teams a lot of confidence.

“We haven’t played for a few weeks, which stops the momentum after a win in our first match, but the guys are ready for the match,” said Parkside coach Luaan Sedras.

“We are aiming for a win, I think we will be disappointed with anything less,” was Old Boys coach Leroy Phillips’ response.

The only other men’s premier division match tomorrow sees Buffs play Phoenix at 11.30am.
