It’s showtime as hitmen in mean mood

There was an eerie atmosphere at the SuperSport studios where the IBO mini-flyweight title clash between two Eastern Cape boxers Simphiwe Konkco and Siyabonga Siyo was formally announced yesterday.

Konkco and Siyo will meet in a Golden Gloves Promotion (GGP) tournament jointly presented with Sijuta Promotions – the company that handles both boxers – at Emperors Palace on June 11.

“If he is coming with what he did to Budler then he must forget about beating me,” he said.

The tournament will also feature a Cruiserweight Super Four tournament consisting of Johnny Muller, Dane Micki Nielsen, Kevin Lerena and Argentine Robert Bollonti.

Muller will meet the unbeaten Dane while Muller will oppose Bollonti. The winners will then advance to the final, set for the casino venue in October, with a $100000 purse split of $60000 (about R910000) for the winner and $40000 (about R607000) for runner-up.

Nathan did not mince his words when talking about the fight saying Siyo was still green for Konkco.

‘Good luck to him.”
