Matiti gets her Theatre of dreams

Two big tournaments that were scheduled to be held a few weeks ago will take place in East London this weekend, with female promoter Sibongile Matiti making her promotional debut under her new outfit Zbashy Promotions at Orient Theatre on Friday.

Matiti, who has worked with her brother Ayanda Matiti to steamroll Xaba Promotions into an international entity, has now decided to go solo. She will launch her own company with a multi-title tournament headlined by the return of Macbute Sinyabi.

Sinyabi, who also holds the SA featherweight crown, will come up against Tanzanian journeyman Francis Miyeyusho with the IBO international title up for grabs.

Sinyabi is at the tail-end of his career and is eager to launch one last effort at the world title shot. However, the problem is the full version of the IBO is held by Lusanda Komanisi, who has already knocked him out.

Viewed as a spent force, some rising stars have been calling him out, including one Azinga Fuzile, and Sinyabi did not hesitate to accept the challenge.

But with Fuzile still occupied for the fight to come to fruition, Sinyabi decided to accommodate Miyeyusho, who will be remembered as the boxer who meekly surrendered to Zolani Tete in the first round of their WBF flyweight title clash a few years ago.

Zbashy’s inauguration will see the return of Makazole Tete against another Tanzanian foe, Ramadhani Kumbele, with the regional IBF junior-bantamweight crown at stake.

Tete will step into the ring for the first time since his disappointing loss to Gideon Buthelezi for the vacant IBO crown.

Other bouts on the bill include two SA titles, with defending champions Bongani Mahlangu and Jasper Seroka risking their junior-featherweight and junior-lightweight belts against local fighters Bonakele Bhikitsha and Aphiwe Mboyiya respectively.

On Sunday KK Promotions hosts its tournament at Mdantsane Indoor Centre.

The show will be topped by the SA female junior-bantamweight title clash between hot East London boxer Leighandre Jegels against Nolubabalo Ngqondelana.

Two of the six bouts on offer will be for the provincial title, with Onela Qongwana risking his bantamweight crown against Bonani Ngozi, while Yanga Phethani and Makhosonke Zwengu will dispute the middleweight belt.
