Macbute Sinyabi, left seen here with Tanzanian Francis Miyeyushu ahead of their IBO International featherweight title clash, will take on Azinga Fuzile at Orient Theatre next month.
One of the eagerly-anticipated local boxing matches pitting Duncan Village against Mdantsane will finally happen when Macbute Sinyabi defends his SA featherweight crown against Azinga Fuzile on September 30 at Orient Theatre.

Since the fight was announced, the social media have been going in overdrive mode with boxing fans split down the middle regarding the winner.

As is often the case, Sinyabi’s fans mostly from Mdantsane are dismissing the unbeaten Duncan Village star describing him as too green to step into the ring with the former knockout specialist.

This despite the fact that Sinyabi has since lost his potency after being dethroned by another Duncan Village boxer Thabo Sonjica.

Ironically Fuzile, also a southpaw, who has a stellar amateur career which he has since transferred into the professional ranks with aplomb by winning all his four fights, is relying on Sonjica who is firmly behind him.

Sonjica has been talking up a storm in social media all but pronouncing that Fuzile would end the career of Sinyabi.

Sinyabi had previously expressed his desire to challenge newly-crowned IBO junior-lightweight champion Malcolm Klaasen, who won the title after dethroning Australian-based Filipino Jack Assis in Gauteng a fortnight ago.

In the same tournament Sinyabi also successfully retained his IBO Intercontinental featherweight crown by repelling the challenge of Indonesian Rivo Rengkung.

While it was expected that Sinyabi’s challenge to Klaasen would materialise as they both belong to Xaba Promotions and Events (XPE), the Mdantsane hero will instead accommodate Fuzile in a bout that has drawn parallels with the all time classics pitting boxers from Duncan Village against those from Mdantsane.

Sinyabi is arguably one of the best boxers in the land never to win a world title after his title aspirations were dashed with a fifth round knockout by Lusanda Komanisi two years ago.

Asked why he decided to organise the fight when he could have steered Sinyabi to bigger challenges, XPE boss Ayanda Matiti said Fuzile holds the mandatory position to Sinyabi’s title.

“We have been reluctant to organise this fight even though Fuzile has been publicly demanding it but now we felt why not,” said Matiti.

Fuzile is promoted by Rumble Africa Promotions owned by former Matiti rival Terris Ntuthu but since Ntuthu was elected to serve in Eastern Cape Promoters Association chaired by Matiti the cold war between the pair has somewhat thawed.

Matiti could not say if Rumble Africa will be part of the promotion, a sticky point which had previously prevented a mouthwatering bout between Makazole Tete and Moruti Mthalane who both belong to the two promoters.

“We are busy sorting out those issues but the fight is on,” said Matiti.

The Daily Dispatch predicted that Fuzile would be a champion by his fifth professional bout and if he beats Sinyabi as almost all his Duncan Village fans are anticipating he would have fulfilled his potential.

However, Matiti does not even see the fight as being competitive due to the vast difference in experience between the two pugilists.

Sinyabi had amassed a 33 bouts record with just four losses compared to Fuzile’s only four fights resumé.

Details about the tournament are yet to be revealed including the supporting bouts.
