Caster Semenya seems not have been affected by those critical of her participation in the Rio Olympics‚ instead focusing on her fans.

The runner took to social media just after securing her spot in the women’s 800m finals at the Games on Friday morning to acknowledge her supporters.

“Technically athletics is an individual sport‚ but to get to the top an individual needs a team. You guys are my team‚ your love and support has carried me this far‚” the athlete shared on Facebook.

“Thank you very much we made it to the finals.”

All eyes will be on Semenya on Sunday as she looks to add another gold medal to South Africa’s already impressive tally at the Olympics.

To date‚ the team has collected nine medals‚ with Sunette Viljoen adding silver in the women’s javelin on Friday morning.

The other medallists are: Swimmer Chad le Clos came second in the men’s 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle; Cameron van der Burgh finished second in the men’s 100m breaststroke‚ Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling secured silver in the men’s rowing pairs‚ captain Kyle Brown and company settled for bronze in the men’s rugby sevens‚ the talented Luvo Manyonga took silver in the men’s long jump‚ the world record-breaking Wayde van Niekerk clinched gold in the men’s 400m and an elated Henri Schoeman secured bronze in the men’s triathlon. – Tiso Black Star Group Digital
