Chippa United captain James Okwuosa says a win against Cape Town City is crucial for the team to win back the hearts of their supporters.

The Port Elizabeth-based side play City in a Premier Soccer League fixture at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Chilli Boys have not won a league match in their last four clashes, their most recent result being a 1-0 loss to Bidvest Wits.

The Nigerian-born defender said the next game was a great opportunity for the team to redeem themselves.

“We know we have not been doing well of late having lost a game to Wits and playing to two home draws,” said Okwuosa.

“This is a great opportunity for us to redeem ourselves. The fans mean a lot they have been an inspiration to us.

“They boost us a lot both home and away which is vital to us. Seeing them coming out in their numbers raining or not has been a great motivation to us.

“Those who have the team in their minds we should try and give them all our best to make them happy.”

The skipper says the spirit in the team is high and that the players were ready to take on the Cape Town side on Saturday.

He said the players have been putting in extra effort to see that the team bounces back to their winning form.

Chippa’s last victory was against league rookies Baroka.

“This game is vital to us because we are playing a very tough game against Pirates on Tuesday.

“We are trying to keep the form not only at home. We know we have never been beaten this season at home.”

The 26-year-old said City was not a threat to them and that they treat each and every PSL team the same. There are no exceptions.

He, however, said the most important thing is not to concede any goals on Saturday.

“That will be our number one priority because if we don’t concede we won’t lose. So we are trying to avoid that.”

Chippa are now eighth on the log with nine points from seven games, having lost two, draw three and won two of their matches.
