Tribal gives young cyclist timely push

By ROSS ROCHE

Budding young XCO Cycling series talent Madison Mann received a boost recently when Tribal gave her a sponsorship.

The good news comes after a stellar year on the bike, where she has excelled in various races throughout the season.

This culminated in Mann producing her most impressive performance to date in mid-July, when she excelled at the SA Championships in Pietermaritzburg, finishing third in the race but claiming the overall win in the National Cup XCO series, after her consistent performances over the season garnered her enough points.

“She only really started racing seriously at the beginning of the year so to go from nothing to the top three in the country really takes some doing and she has been very impressive while doing it,” said head of Eastern Wheelers Cycling club Luca Fanicchi.

“She has put in all the hard work and it shows in her results.”

Mann started riding with Eastern Wheelers in 2015 where she was mentored by Fanicchi, who saw her for the first time and started to work on her technical skills.

“She has been improving in leaps and bounds, and she is also very dedicated.

“When someone really enjoys what they do and is dedicated, you can see it in the constant improvements they make,” Fanicchi said.

From there she backed up her talent by starting to win local spur race events.

Mann then began to travel and participate at the provincial XCOs where she did consistently well, moving up quickly and travelling around the country to join up with the national XCO series.

This year Mann was lying second overall in the series until the last national series race in Bloemfontein, where she claimed first place and took the lead in the series.

The cycling season starts winding down now with only a few more competitive races on the cards and a number of fun races, and Mann will want to finish the season well.

She hopes she can capitalise on her form this year and build on it for the future.

“She has the talent, she has the dedication and the support of her parents and the club.

“As long as she can maintain the level at which she rides and keep pushing herself, there is no doubt that she can continue to grow and improve,” Fanicchi said.
