The second last weekend of school rugby derbies is being battled out today with a couple of schools even finishing their fixtures for the season.

Selborne College play their final match of the season, a blockbuster clash against massive rivals Grey High School and it should be a cracking end to their seasons.

Grens High also end their season with a big derby against rivals Union, while Stirling and Port Rex finished their seasons with a derby battle late yesterday afternoon.

Hudson Park High and Dale College meet in their second last fixtures of the season, while Queen’s College and Cambridge High both have the weekend off and will be in action against Dale and Hudson respectively next weekend.

In the headline clash, Selborne and Grey will continue their ferocious rivalry at Selborne College this afternoon.

Selborne claimed a massive away win against Grey last year to break a three match losing streak against them and they will want to get their own winning streak under way with another win today. Grey will be looking for a bit of revenge.

Selborne’s season has been a decent one. They had a bit of a mid-season stumble but have come back with a good run that has seen them win the last six matches in a row.

In all they have won 13 games, lost three and drawn two this season.

“We have only lost three games this season, as well as getting two draws, so I would say we have had a good season,” said Selborne first team coach Kevin Taylor.

“We maybe should have beaten SACS instead of drawing with them but we then had a good draw with Monument and our losses against Queen’s and Dale were both really close matches that were in the balance right until the end.

“We were only really outplayed in our match against Grey College, so from that perspective we have done rather well.”

Grey have had 13 wins and four losses over their season, so like Selborne, have had a decent run this year.

The last two matches between these sides were decided by less than five points, so we should be in for another close one.

The match will be broadcast live on Supersport 1 from 1.10pm.

In the other big match Hudson and Dale will battle it out at Hudson Park this afternoon.

Dale’s outstanding 11 match winning streak was ended by Selborne in King William’s Town last weekend, so they will be aiming to bounce back from that loss.

With just two losses and 15 wins it has been a fantastic season for Dale and they will be eager to end off on a high with two good wins against Hudson and Queen’s.

Hudson, however, have themselves had a good season and have played the role of giant killers at home against a few of the College’s.

Both Queen’s and St Andrew’s stumbled to losses at Hudson earlier in the season and Hudson will be looking to add Dale to their list of successes.

Having lost against Grey High last weekend Hudson will also want to claim a win to take into their final derby clash against Cambridge, and with it also being their reunion weekend they will want to perform in front of their old Hudsonians.

The match kicks off at 2.45pm.
