Fans can hedge their bets on who will be master

The huge interest generated by the eagerly anticipated clash between two boxers from Mdantsane and Duncan Village has prompted the organisers to put the fight in sports bets.

The clash will be between Mdantsane hero Macbute Sinyabi defending his SA featherweight title against Duncan Village prospect Azinga Fuzile at Orient Theatre on September 30.

The interest in the fight piqued long before it was made official and debate has been raging on social media despite the bout being a good month away. Besides the bet the promoters of the two boxers have entered into, the organisers have already began talks to put it in sports bets.

It will be the first time ever a boxing match in the land is put in the sports bet.

Sinyabi’s promoter Ayanda Matiti who will organise the fight in conjunction with Rumble Africa Promotions said plans were advanced to enlist the sport betting company.

“I will have a meeting with a prominent sport betting company tomorrow (Thursday) and the prospects look good,” he said.

Matiti has already entered into a bet with Rumble Africa Promotions boss Terris Ntuthu for an undisclosed amount.

“Yes we have entered into a bet with Rumble Africa but we will reveal the amount in due course.”

The interest generated by the fight is equalling the euphoria that engulfed the local boxing scene ahead of the flyweight title clash between two boxers from Duncan Village and Mdantsane; Zolile Mbityi and Toto Makorotlo in 1993.

Since Mbityi broke the hearts of Duncan Village when he knocked out Makorotlo in six rounds, boxing fans from the shack-littered township have been looking to someone to exact revenge.

And when Sinyabi twice knocked out Duncan Village boxer Thabo Sonjica before Sonjica gained a measure of revenge with a points victory in their third clash, Fuzile is not only seen as the Duncan Village messiah but someone who will finally wipe out the dreaded image of Sinyabi for good.

The fight has plenty of story-lines with the promoters coming to the clash in the backdrop of their political differences that prevented other mouthwatering bouts from taking place. It will be the first time their boxers clash in a high-profile bout and the bet they have entered into will stoke the fires to unparalleled levels. Matiti said boxing fans should also personally benefit financially.

“This fight may become the most financially grossing boxing match ever staged in the region and we want everybody to benefit from it. Fans must start making money from these kinds of bouts and we will move heaven and earth to make sure they do not only support with their hearts but with their wallets.”

Sinyabi is considered to be on the decline while Fuzile is an emerging boxing star. If Fuzile wins he will enter in the annals of boxing history for becoming a national champion with the fewest pro fights having fought just four times compared to Sinyabi’s 33.
