BCM defends title in Southern African games

Buffalo City Municipality successfully defended their status as overall winners at the 14th annual Southern African Inter-Municipal Games (SAIMSA) this past weekend.

The games, which ran over a week in Mafikeng, North West, saw municipal employees and employers come together to compete in various sporting codes predetermined by the participants.

Performances were rewarded with floating trophies and medals.

SAIMSA vice-president Sam Rameetsa said despite financial challenges, the games went well and Mafikeng Municipality was succesful in hosting the event.

“The games went exceptionally well this year.

“Having been in office for only four months we are very happy we managed to pull off such a big event.”

Rameetsa added that although there were one or two complaints, it had also been a learning experience, and they would look to improve the games in future years. — qaqambam@dispatch.co.za
