The jury is still out there on whether vanquished Mdantsane boxing hero Macbute Sinyabi will continue with his boxing career after being outclassed by a four-fight novice at the weekend.

The 29-year-old was made to look ordinary by Azinga Fuzile who dominated him and dropped him to the canvas three times en route to dethroning him of his SA featherweight crown. This despite the fact that Sinyabi came to the fight boasting a 33-fight record, which appeared to most pundits as a real mismatch.

And a mismatch it prove to be in the end, with Sinyabi being on the receiving end of the merciless pounding by the 20-year-old Grade 11 pupil.

Some question Sinyabi’s wisdom to accept the fight when he has been on the decline in recent times. But his promoter Ayanda Matiti insisted that his charge would be too strong for the young challenger – and duly organised the fight.

Matiti admitted that he underestimated Fuzile, while also blaming Sinyabi for failing to turn up to the fight.

“To me Macbute committed technical mistakes which made him lose the fight,” Matiti said.

“I liken his fight with Fuzile to the one between Gideon Buthelezi and Makazole Tete when Tete did not turn up.”

Coincidentally, Sinyabi is trained by veteran trainer Dowie Mzini, who also trained Tete for his IBO junior bantamweight title clash against Buthelezi.

When asked if Sinyabi would continue to fight or retire as most boxing fans are suggesting, Matiti said he has yet to sit down and discuss the issue with the boxer.

“I need him to replay the fight in his head so that when we meet he will be in a better position to comment about his future,” Matiti added. When asked what his feelings were, Matiti said: “If I express my feeling now I would be pre-empting the meeting”.

There has been differing opinions on the fight, with some boxing fans saying the outcome spelt the end of Sinyabi’s career, while other blamed him for technical mistakes.

However, Fuzile proved his superiority in all departments and if a rematch were to be held it would be hard to see a different outcome. Already offers are pouring in for Fuzile with some said to be coming abroad.

“We expected this and we are handling it well,” his mentor Mzamo “Chief” Njekanye said.

“We knew that people would be blown away by Fuzile’s performance but we have always known that he is this good so it was a matter of time before the public got to watch him,” he said

“If we were to fight again the fight would go the same way although this time probably he would not hear the final bell,” Fuzile said.
