School boy rugby action will be kicking into high gear on Monday morning when the U16 Coca Cola Grant Khomo Week gets under way at Grey College in Bloemfontein.

Cracking provincial action is on the cards and the Border Grant Khomo week side will be aiming to impress over the five day festival.

A strong team has been chosen with a number of players having been a part of the U13 Craven week side that made the final a few years ago.

“The team is looking good. We have got the bulk of the Craven week U13 team from a few years ago reunited as U16s as well as a few new faces to compliment the team,” said assistant coach Khanyisa Mpumlwana.

“The players were all chosen on merit and as management and selectors we are very happy with the chosen side.”

The team enjoyed a five day camp at Dale College in King William’s Town over the past week, where they began to gel as a team and get used to one another, while they also got in a practice match as well.

“The team had a match earlier this week against a local rugby club from from King William’s Town called Helpers,” explained Mpumlwana.

“We did well. I hope the play carries over to the Grant Khomo Week as they played as a team and it looked very promising for a practice match.”

Last year the Border Grant Khomo Week team struggled, only managing to win one of their three matches, so this year’s side will be aiming for a much improved showing.

With most of the players from this team having performed so well at the U13 Week, they will be keen to do it again.

“ I strongly believe we have the team that can achieve improved results,” claimed Mpumlwana.

“The goal is to reach the final and bring home the prize.”

Their first match will be a daunting one against the Lions Grant Khomo side. However to be the best you have to beat the best and the coaching staff are confident of doing well.

“We look forward to embracing this challenge an as Border we only want to play the best opposition,” admitted Mpumlwana.

“We would love to meet Western Province in the pool games or final. That is the team that most of this team lost to at the U13 Craven Week and we wish to overturn that result.”

Border take on the Lions in the third match of the day on Monday morning.
