Mthatha Bucks resume their quest of qualifying for the play-offs with an away National First Division encounter against Mbombela United today.

Amathol’amnyama will be looking for their third consecutive win as they take on the 10th-placed United at Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit.

A win will take Bucks to 36 points after 22 games and within a top three finish – an automatic play-off berth.

Speaking to Saturday Dispatch yesterday, coach Ian Palmer said they will go for broke today.

Luckily for the Eastern Cape outfit, they go into the game with a fully fit squad with no injuries or suspensions.

“All the games from now are going to be tough games but we are prepared for maximum points. So we are going to go out and give a good account of ourselves,” he said.

On paper, Palmer’s charges are favourites, but playing United in their backyard will not be an easy task for the team.

Bucks have been in devastating form recently and put up some great all-round performances.

The team will be eager to continue with their winning ways as the fixtures come thick and fast.

Palmer will be happy that he no longer has to rely solely on leading goalscorer Mazwi “Jomo” Mncube to find the back of the net as his other striker, Chileshe Kangwa, has also been in fine form, scoring on a regular basis.

Other senior players like captain Thabiso Mokoena, Madumetja “Di Maria” Khwinana, Sibusiso Hlubi and goalkeeper Luvo Nkala have also come to the party.

Players like Sinawo “Eto’o” Masana and Petrus Ngebo will have to find their scoring boots to increase the team’s chances of finishing in the top three.

With four home games remaining, Bucks are eager to add to the targeted 12 points at home with some away wins.

“We have to win our home games at all costs but nothing stops us from getting a result away as well. If we get a result away, that’s like a bonus for us. It will make our job easier,” he said.

“We can’t ignore this game going away from home. We have to take it one game at a time and deal with this game first and get the required points. We will do our best to come back with the three points,” Palmer said.

“It would be good for us to get maximum points now to make sure that when we play Santos, the stadium will be packed and it will keep our hopes alive. That is our main goal, to keep our dream alive.”
