We didn't fix the game says Buya Msuthu coach after 3-1 loss

Super Eagles beat Buya Msuthu 3-1 to book themselves a spot in the National First Division on Friday.

The loss meant tournament favourites Acornbush United missed out on NFD football as they finished with 10 points, same as Eagles but with an inferior goal difference.

Acornbush celebrated on Thursday after beating Buya Msuthu 1-0 thinking the North West outfit would do them a favour and beat Eagles on Friday.

Acornbush coach Mcdonald Makhubedu said the only way they would miss out on the NFD would be if the Buya Msuthu and Eagles game was fixed.

But Buya Msuthu coach Kabelo Sibiya dismissed the allegation.

"Acornbush beat us yeaterday. Was the game fixed or not? That is for him to answer that question. Everyone came here to win the tournament for himself. We are not here to do anyone favours.

"We came to the match and we lost so why must people come up with unnecessary accusations now?

"How do you motivate a player that is disappointed coming to play a match for nothing? That is the question that I'm asking.

"As a coach you can make a line up and tell players this is how you have to play. We have to attack and we have to defend when we don't have the ball but obviously the players will tell you 'but coach what are we playing for after such a disappointment?'

"We tried to talk to them and motivate them but at the end of the day, the mind of the player is something that will decide the game," he said.

Buya Msuthu players dribbled and showed off their skills as they entertained the fans.

Their body language was clearly of a team playing just for the sake of honouring the fixture.

So what about the player's pride?

"South African players mostly enjoy dribbling, the skills. For them they feel so good when they're dribbling. That is what we enjoyed and the supporters enjoyed that.

"They feel good when the supporters are screaming for them. I believe for them pride in terms of today's game was to play well and let the supporters what they're seeing on the field.

"For us it wasn't more of the result because even if we won the match it was still not going to do us anything," he said.

"So the players somehow had to enjoy the game. Unfortunately if someone didn't benefit from the result of this game, that is not our business.

"We came here to try and win the status, we didn't win the status. We're as disappointed as they are," Sibiya said.
