The former Orlando Pirates mentor told reporters on the sideline after the Nedbank Ke Yona Challenge at Makhulong Stadium, where his side won 2-1 against the select team, he was satisfied with the way his boys played, but reflected if they had penetrated the opponents a little bit more they could have scored more goals.

“We got the two goals in the first that I felt would seal the deal. Second half we made a few changes and in the second the opposition was a little bit better in terms of structure defensively.

“We found it difficult to break them down a couple of times on the counter and our discipline kinda went a little bit, but it’s something that can be fixed.”

He said the next two weeks were vital for Matsatsantsa, with the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 on the cards for the Pretoria-based outfit.

“We looking to be positive going forward and to score goals, so today that was a slight disappointment in the first half, and because we are missing seven of the regular players everybody will be back on Wednesday (today), so it gives us a little bit more time to prepare.

“Then obviously we have the Confederations Cup coming up against Zesco and that is the competition we wanna take further.”

He was satisfied with Richard Boateng’s debut, saying: “He is extremely talented and I think he has a lot to give to the team, and I think he will come to terms with the way the team plays.”

Team Ke Yona coach, Shakes Mashaba, said his side started on a bad foot.

“You could have seen that the boys had stage fright, but after some 20 minutes we played very well, but unfortunately we couldn’t finish our chances.

“As we have indicated in the past five years this was the best team that we’ve selected. You’ve seen the way the boys played.

“What impressed us with the way these boys played was the will. They wanted to play. They gave it all their best and playing a team against SuperSport.

“They have been playing together for quite some time and they are champs of this Nedbank and we thank SuperSport for giving us their best team, and that was good for some of these players, and it was a good thing for them to rub shoulders.

“The people enjoyed the game and it was crowned by the goal. Five years we’ve been looking for that goal and it came.”

He said if more companies would follow in Nedbank’s footsteps and host similar tournaments the national team would also flourish.
