The Coca-Cola Schools T20 National Finals gets under way today, with eight teams from around the country battling it out for top honours.

The Eastern Cape has two hopefuls leading the charge and they will be eager to get their campaigns off to the perfect start this morning.

Grey High School are the Warriors representatives and they take on Titans champs St Albans on the Tuks B field.

Grey will be gunning for a top start to take some momentum into their afternoon clash against Lions reps King Edward VII School (KES).

“We are really keen as a team, we have worked hard for this and we just really want to express ourselves over the weekend,” said Grey captain Tristan Stubbs.

“We don't really know much about them (St Albans), we know that this is their hometown and they are suited to this climate, so it will just be us getting used to the conditions and having fun.

“We lost earlier in the year to KES, so we would like to make amends and get a win over them this time.”

Following today's games Grey will finish their pool matches against EC rivals Graeme on Saturday morning before heading into the cross-pool section of the tournament.

“It is lekker to play against Graeme, we know most of the players, so it is just fun, you play with mates and it is good competition,” added Stubbs.

For Graeme they take on KES first up on the Tuks Oval.

Playing against one of the tournament favourites on the main field would normally be a daunting task for a team playing at the nationals for the first time, but captain Mark Amm is confident and relishing the challenge.

“The team was very upbeat when we drove to PE and flew to Joburg this morning (Thursday), the team has been really uplifted by this amazing experience,” said Amm.

“It is very exciting, KES is the team to beat and we are taking that as motivation to cause an upset with us coming from a much smaller town in the Eastern Cape.

“I think our goal for the tournament is to just to gain experience and see how it is playing the top schools in the country.”

The action gets under way at 9.30am this morning, with the afternoon games starting at 2.15pm.
