Chilli Boys in the hunt for that priceless Chiefs’ scalp

Chippa United coach Dan “Dance” Malesela said he would like to end the season on a high note and beating two Soweto giants back-to-back would do just that.

Chippa play Kaizer Chiefs in their last Premier Soccer League fixture of the season at FNB Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The Port Elizabeth team will be back in action after their recent 2-0 victory against Orlando Pirates at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. That win guaranteed the team a top eight finish, regardless of the other results n Saturday’s PSL fixtures.

The Chilli Boys are sixth on the log with 42 points from 29 games.

“It would be nice to beat two Soweto giants in a row and also finish the league on a high,” said Malesela.

“But last games come with a challenge. There are a lot of psychological issues that you have. People are thinking of home. People are probably signing contracts somewhere. So it’s more on working on the mind of the players than anything else. But we have already started that process,” he said.

“We are preparing our players towards that and hopefully we will have a good game.

“There is a slim chance of ending fifth on the log depending how well Aces play. If that happens then it’s fine.”

Depending on the weekend’s results, the worst place Malesela’s troops could finish is in eighth position.

Chippa have done incredibly well this season compared to the previous one where they saw themselves fighting to avoid relegation.

From the matches that they have played so far the Chilli Boys have lost 11 games, won 12 and drawn six.

What is ironic is that their last game last season was a must-win match against Chiefs which they lost 2-0 at NMB Stadium. This time around Chippa will go into the game against Amakhosi pressure free and not having to worry about permutations.
