Dale beat Hudson in T20 thriller

Dale College and Hudson Park High School served up a match to remember as the former claimed an exciting win in their schools’ T20 match at Buffalo Park last week.

Played as the curtain-raiser to the Warriors versus the Knights game on Friday night, the clash was a good indication of what was to come as it swung one way and then the other before Dale finally pulled the four wicket win out of the bag with two balls remaining.

Set 118 to win, Dale did not get off to the best start, slipping to 25/3 after four overs.

However, a top fourth-wicket partnership of 58 off 56 balls between Yamkela Oliphant (43) and Daniel Loubser (21) brought the match right back into the mix and allowed Siphosethu Dlongodlongo (13*) to finish the match with a flourish.

The game was an exciting occasion for both teams as it was screened live on Supersport. Hudson won the toss and elected to bat and immediately set about their task with a decent 27-run opening partnership.

Captain Bathandwa Isaacs’s wicket was the first to fall when he was caught by Aphelele Fassi off the bowling of Dlongodlongo for 13 off 14 balls (2x4).

Shane Weweje then joined Athi Mfazwe at the wicket and they took the score to 49 at the end of eight overs, when Weweje was bowled by Malwande Zamo.

Sine Qeshile followed soon after for one, bowled by Ntsika Dwanya, as Hudson slipped to 60/3.

Mfazwe's good innings finally came to an end for 38 off 44 balls with six fours, as he was bowled by Dlongodlongo half way through the 14th over, and Hudson were in a bit of trouble on 71/4.

A composed 25 not out off 27 balls (2x4) from Troy Opperman however helped Hudson push past the century mark to post 117/6.

Dlongodlongo was the pick of the bowlers with 2/22 off his four overs, but was backed up well as the rest of the Dale attack all chipped in.

Dale’s chase started badly as their opening three batsmen, Mncedisi Malika (6), Fassi (6) and Zamo (13) all found their way back to the pavilion after a good opening spell from Axola Ngwana and Ntsika Njoloza.

At that stage Oliphant and Loubser were brought together and they began their revival of the innings in style. Loubser eventually fell for 21 off 34 balls (1x4) in the 14th over, bowled by Mfazwe with Dale on 83/4.

A fantastic 16th over from Akona Mnyaka saw him claim two wickets, both caught by Qeshile as first Oliphant's entertaining 30-ball 43 (4x4, 1x6) came to an end and Bamanye Xenxe followed four balls later for a duck as Dale slipped to 95/6.

With the match in the balance Dlongodlongo joined Sinesipho Dlongodlongo (4*) at the crease and struck two fours at the close as he guided Dale home with two balls to spare.
