‘Who is superior‚ Zuma or the Constitution?’

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members gathered at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown‚ but there was no sign of Democratic Alliance (DA) supporters or those of the United Democratic Movement.

A few hundred EFF members chanted: “We want our money back.”

Others held placards reading: “Gupta honeymoon is over” and “Zupta Must Fall”.

These referenced EFF leader Julius Malema’s comments about President Jacob Zuma’s allegedly corrupt relationship with the Gupta family last week.

Maphen Pule‚ chairperson of ward 40 in Orlando West‚ said she had come to support the march against “corruption”‚ adding “EFF is here to protect the Constitution”.

“The Public Protector has put forward her recommendations‚ so we want to know who is superior‚ Zuma or the Constitution?” asked Pule.

There was also no sign of the EFF leadership and the crowds had not yet been addressed.

This came ahead of the EFF and the DA’s applications at the Constitutional Court to have the failure to comply with remedial action set out in a report of the Public Protector by the National Assembly and the Zuma declared a breach of their constitutional duties
