Six people burnt when cooking spray container explodes at air show

Six people were severely burnt on Saturday at the Zwartkops Airshow when a Spray and Cook bottle exploded at a vendor stand during the show.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the accident occurred shortly before noon.

‘‘The paramedics who were standing by at the Air show in Pretoria were faced with a tragic scene. Reports indicate that a Spray and Cook bottle exploded at a vendor stand during the show‚” said Botha.

He said advanced life support medics were dispatched to the scene.

‘‘Medics raced over to the stand and found that six people had sustained severe burns and was in a serious condition.

“Paramedics worked fervently at the scene to stabilise the injured before they were transported to various hospitals in the area‚” he said.

The Zwartkop airshow in Centurion is an annual SA Air Force Museum Air Show.

The show ran over the weekend.
