The University of Fort Hare has been closed with immediate effect and students are expected to vacate all university residences by 5pm tomorrow.
This comes after students defied orders from the university vice-chancellor Mvuyo Tom to return to the lecture hall by 8am this morning.
In a letter issued to students and staff, this afternoon Tom said students who wished to resume their studies would return to the university on October 11, accompanied by their parents.
In mini-mass meeting this morning, students vowed that they would not return to class until the management gave them the venue for a mass meeting.
“All students are expected to have vacated the residences by 5pm on Thursday, residences will be reopened for that purpose on October 11 and academic activities with resume the following day.
