Two employees working for an East London gym are at loggerheads following a scooter accident in the car park of a local shopping mall.

Video-footage of the incident has divided opinion on who was at fault in the incident, which took place at Gonubie’s King’s mall on September27.

The video shows a woman employee standing in the middle of a roadway in the mall’s parking area spreading her arms moments before a scooter smashes into her.

Receptionist Jamila Adams, 43, was rushed to Frere Hospital after fitness trainer and extreme sport athlete Sipho Makaya Madyaka, 30, collided with her on his scooter.

In the 40-second video, which has since gone viral, Adams can be seen arriving with two women, identified as her mother and daughter.

After parking and climbing out of their vehicle Adams can be seen standing in the middle of the roadway waving her arms.

She then makes as if she going to continue walking across the road but repeats the act again just seconds before the scooter comes into picture and collides with her.

Adams has accused Madyaka of deliberately driving into her, while he has maintained his innocence, saying it was just an accident.

However, Adams said the incident took place just days after she was involved in a heated argument with Madyaka at work.

“Sipho has not talked to me since the incident and refused to apologise. I’m still limping and I can’t sit on benches because I landed on my coccyx; it is very painful when I sit,” she said.

Madyaka accused Adams of standing in the way as he tried stopping the bike.

“It is not a superbike so had I tried to swerve I would have caused an accident anyway.

“My mind told me that she was going to jump out of the way when I got closer.”

Madyaka said he hit the brakes but the scooter skidded and collided with Adams.

He said he had just purchased the bike from another colleague and was still trying to get used to it.

He said the scooter had been damaged beyond repair.

Edge Fitness assistant manager Charlen Nel, 28, said the business refused to get involved in the feud between the two.

She denied claims that they had sided with Madyaka and said they treated every employee equally.

Madyaka, a professional bodybuilder, said he had fractured ribs and bruises and injuries to his legs, and he was unable to train properly.
