Club owner survives point-blank execution attempt unscathed

Nightclub owner Katrina Munusamy has been living in fear since she was shot at three times as she left her popular Rock nightclub in King William’s Town at 4am.Munusamy, 45, opened a case of attempted murder with police after two gunmen walked up to her as she sat in her Mercedes-Benz.
One of them opened fire at point blank range.
All three bullets missed her but the mother of two has been left traumatised and afraid.
The doors of the popular nightclub at the corner of Grey and Victoria roads, which used to be open six nights a week, are now open on weekends only.
“I am scared to be there for long. This is costing me money.”
King William’s Town police yesterday confirmed that the incident on May 14 was an attempt on Munusamy’s life, not an attempted robbery.
Police spokeswoman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said an attempted murder investigation was under way.
Mawisa said no one had been arrested.
Police had also investigated four cases of robbery after a spate of break-ins at the club.
Expensive alcohol and R100000 cash were stolen during the break-ins, which happened between November and March.
The attempted murder docket is being investigated with the help of the provincial tracking team.
Munusamy said: “If you look at where the bullets hit the car, you can easily conclude that the first bullet was set for my chest and the two that were fired at the back, while I was speeding off, were aimed at my spine.”
The Dispatch has seen the bullet holes.
The first bullet hit the driver’s door, shattering the window.
“It got trapped inside the double steel door,” said Munusamy.
The second bullet hit the right back passenger door and the third the right tail-light, coming to rest inside the boot.
“The cops confirmed that the lining up of the bullets was aimed at my body and dismissed robbery as a motive.
“They wanted me dead.”
Munusamy was parked outside the club waiting for her son Donolin Munusamy, 21, and an employee to lock up when the two gunmen struck.
“I was already in the car with two ladies who work for me and waiting for the bouncer and my son.
“One guy walked and stood in front of the rear passenger window so we all looked at him, not knowing that there was a second one who had turned around and stood at my window.
“All I saw was the barrel of a gun pointed at me. I kept my head down while pressing hard on the accelerator.”
Munusamy said she fled, leaving her son and the bouncer inside the club, praying that they would not come out. “The way I see it whoever is after me may harm my family to get to me. When I drove away my idea was to lead them away from my son.”
Munusamy, who also has a daughter, said the school’s staff had been put on high alert after the incident.
“I have reported the incident and they have beefed up security.
“I am really worried for the safety of my family.” —
