The Fine and Fabulous Market, a regular pop-up event hosted at different venues around East London, will see its first ever young entrepreneurs market day at Pinecreek this weekend.

The Fine and Fabulous Market, which started officially last year, is the brainchild of Sam Ramsey who grew up in Cape Town with a great love for market places.

“I’ve always loved markets and grew up going to so many. It’s one of the best ways to support small businesses,” said Ramsey who has a passion for uplifting entrepreneurs in a fun and unique way.

Since its inception, the Fine and Fabulous Market has had numerous themes, with various stalls offering an array of unique products and services.

Each market also aims to aid a different charity in East London.

Today’s young entrepreneur-themed market will host 23 stalls, all run by children between the ages of seven and 16.

Ramsey said that one of her main goals was to keep providing new and interesting markets, ensuring that each one was unique and showcased a different local venue.

She said that she had always wanted to have a young entrepreneurs market, dubbing it her passion project.

“When you show interest in a child who has an idea, a spark, you give them such a huge confidence boost and show them that they can and should dream big.”

The market will see stalls offering an array of products ranging from delicious treats such as homemade toffee apples to second-hand kiddies clothing.

The market will also be showcasing various talents with the Grens High School marimba band playing throughout the day. The band will also have a pancake stall in an effort to raise funds for their upcoming tour to attend the international marimba and steel band festival in Johannesburg.

This year the beneficiary, from funds raised for stall hire, will be Canaan Care Centre, who will also be running a kiddies photo booth in order to raise funds.

Each stall holder will receive a goodie bag and a certificate at the end of the day. Various prizes will also be awarded for excellence in a variety of categories. The main prize winner, for the best overall product, will receive R1500 from Pinecreek as well as a prize for their school.— madeleineC@dispatch.co.za
