R150m upgrade for roads in BCM

Buffalo City Metro has injected more than R150m into resurfacing some streets in East London, King William's Town, Bhisho, Zwelitsha, Ilitha township and Dimbaza.
Included in the list of roads were the old Transkei Road in Nahoon; Chatham Road in Baysville where R6.1m was spent; the Major Square, Pinewood Street and Quenera Drive in Beacon Bay.
A sum of R3.7m is being used to fix Settlers Way in West Bank while St Michael's , Wynne and Rose Garden Street in Southernwood have already been resurfaced.
BCM spokesman Sam Ngwenya said more than 120 streets in all the metro’s suburbs, as well as in Duncan Village, Dimbaza and Bhisho would benefit from the project.
“All the roads listed are complete except for some road markings in places,” said Ngwenya. Outstanding, he added, was Boundary Road in Gonubie: “Road construction is continuing and will be complete in June 2019.
“Road conditions are vastly improved, providing better riding quality and a safer road for users. It will also assist mobility in as far as public transportation is concerned for the thousands who commute in and around our city on a daily basis, plus the transportation of goods for the business sector,” said Ngwenya.
Also under progress are secondary streets in Ilitha township where the metro made available a whopping R7.8m.
Another investment in infrastructure was in King William’s Town where streets such as Beatrice, Edward, Arti Erasmus, Goud and Victoria are benefiting from a R10m upgrade.
The Zwelitsha main road will receive a R4m facelift, while streets such as Ngwekazi, Ngqika Avenue, Tapa and Tyhali in Bhisho will share a R5.5m budget...
