An Eastern Cape doctor has become the latest person to test positive for the novel coronavirus.

Dr Sizwe Mxenge confirmed to DispatchLIVE on Thursday he had tested positive for the virus.

Speaking from an East London private hospital ICU, Mxenge, 47, said as soon as he had symptoms consistent with Covid-19, he self-isolated before being admitted in hospital on Sunday.

The popular King William’s Town doctor said he believes he may not have infected his patients with the illness, however, encouraged people to “get tested”.

“I have started with treatment and I hope I will become one of those who have recovered from this,” he said.
