The Eastern Cape has 1,936 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 35 deaths, as of Sunday night. Of those, 1,318 were from the province's two metros, Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay.

With 710 infections and 14 deaths, Nelson Mandela Bay had the province's highest number of cases, but Buffalo City was not far behind, with 608 confirmed cases and seven deaths, according to the provincial health department statistics.

Chris Hani district had  202 confirmed coronavirus cases and eight deaths, while O.R. Tambo had 132 cases and five deaths.

Amathole district had 50 infections of the virus with two deaths and Sarah Baartman, 34 with no deaths registered.

Alfred Nzo had 25 confirmed cases with no fatalities and Joe Gqabi district had 10 cases with a single documented death.

The province has registered 839 recoveries, leaving it with 1,097 active cases, second only in South Africa to the Western Cape.
