Four pupils were rushed to hospital with serious injuries after an accident involving their scholar transport bus in Mount Fletcher on Friday morning.

The 40-seater bus overturned after the driver lost control.

Provincial transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose said the pupils, from Nane Senior Secondary, had been travelling to school when the accident happened.

There had been 18 pupils on the bus, with four seriously injured and the other 14  treated for minor injuries and shock at the scene, Binqose said.

“It is so unfortunate that an accident of this nature has occurred.

“The MEC for transport in the Eastern Cape, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe, has expressed a degree of gratitude that no learner has died in this accident.

“[She] is wishing those in hospital a speedy and full recovery, while extending a word of comfort to parents who find themselves having to visit their children in hospital,” said Binqose.
