Trennerys funduro for good causes too

Enduro enthusiasts are in for a treat as the second annual Trennerys Wild Coast Funduro takes place in Trennerys this weekend.

Slake Adventures and Trennerys Hotel are hosting the popular fun, family-based enduro that will see people from far and wide taking part.

“Last year’s event was a success, we had about 140 riders and this year we are expecting in excess of 200,” said Trennerys manager and event organiser Sherwin Carr.

“We had a father and son arriving from Johannesburg this morning , we have 20-odd people arriving from Howick in KwaZulul-Natal, we have a lot of riders from Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay coming down and then the rest are from East London and the surrounding areas.”

Enduro and offroad two-wheel motorcycles are only allowed on the track and due to it being a fun event, no competitor licences or club memberships are needed, which will allow riders of all levels and ages to come together to enjoy the day.

Participants will be able to tackle four loops on the day, from the technical and challenging A loop aimed at advanced riders, to a B loop geared towards intermediate riders, and an easy and fun C loop for beginners, while a short kiddies loop has also been included.

“There is something for everyone here, not just riders, and with it being a family event it brings families together and is just a wonderful weekend,” said Carr.

Day riders from East London and surrounding areas are welcome to take part and the ferry across the Kei river will open earlier on event day and close later in the evening.

The enduro is also for a good cause, as the money raised from the event will go towards helping local schools in the area.

“We are always very involved with what goes on in the local community and the funds raised here are going towards putting in an irrigation system on the local school field and towards football and netball nets,” said Carr.

Also of excitement for the riders will be the chance to win a 2016 KTM 300 XCW bike, as it will be raffled off to raise funds for Reece Smit, a young man who is in need of a bone marrow transplant.

The days action kicks off at 9am, when the loops open and should be finished by 3pm, when lucky draw prizes will be held at the hotel.
