Some may call him crazy but Mdantsane boxing star Macbute Sinyabi is calling out newly crowned IBO world junior-lightweight champion Malcolm Klaasen.

Sinyabi made the call after his beating tough-as-teak Indonesian Rivo Rengkung at the Emerald Casino in Johannesburg at the weekend.

Sinyabi was defending his IBO Intercontinental featherweight crown against Rengkung.

While he has never fought in the junior-lightweight division, having achieved his boxing success in the junior-featherweight where he defended the national title nine times, Sinyabi is not deterred about fighting in the heavier weight class.

“I will just add a few kilos and I believe that will not affect me that much,” he said.

The fight can actually come to fruition as both boxers share the same promoter in Xaba Promotions and Events.

Klaasen captured the IBO crown at the same tournament at Emerald Casino when he dethroned Australian-based Filipino Jack Assis to win his fourth world title after reigning supreme as the IBF champion twice and also added the WBF crown to his collection.

But detractors still feel Klaasen, who often rehydrates to a junior-welterweight during fight time, would be too strong and too big for Sinyabi.

The 28-year-old boxer, however, disagrees and argues that he would be equal to the task.

Sinyabi has been called into defending his national crown against Duncan Village upstart Azinga Fuzile.

But the boxer sees nothing to gain from the fight.

“Instead of fighting an overrated Duncan Village youngster I would rather test myself against a proven boxer like Klaasen,’’ he said.

Despite his flamboyance Sinyabi has never won a world title, falling short against former stablemate Lusanda Komanisi when he was knocked out in their IBO featherweight title clash.

He views the clash against Klaasen as his crowning moment despite the odds heavily stacked against him.

“I am at my best when people underestimate me.”

XPE boss Ayanda Matiti could not be reached for comment on the possibility of the fight, although Klaasen is believed to be keen as he sees it as an easy payday.
