Marksman Collins Mbesuma's signature is now up for grabs

Premier Soccer League Golden Boot winner Collins Mbesuma is now a free agent and likely to draw widespread interest from clubs up and down the country after leaving Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The Zambian international netted 14 times last season to end as the league’s leading marksman‚ even if he did himself express his displeasure at what he deemed a low total.

His contract at Black Aces has expired and he will not be moving to Cape Town with the new franchise acquired by former Ajax shareholder John Comitis‚ Mbesuma’s agent Mike Makaab has confirmed to Tiso Blackstar Digital.

Makaab would not be drawn on any contact made with clubs yet‚ but the next few weeks could turn into a bun fight for his signature.

Mbesuma has already played for all of the so-called ‘Big Three’‚ excelling at Kaizer Chiefs before less successful spells with Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Aside from Black Aces‚ he has also turned out for Moroka Swallows and Lamontville Golden Arrows in the PSL.

What will be significant for potential suitors is not just the number of goals Mbesuma scored last season‚ but also the number of games he played.

The 32-year-old had battled with injury and weight gain for much of the previous decade‚ but lost seven kilograms and was noticeably nimbler in the last campaign.

He started 29 of Black Aces’ 30 league games‚ and also featured in all but one of their cup matches‚ to put to bed any lingering fitness doubts.

Mbesuma has also recently returned to the Zambia national squad and scored in the surprise 3-2 loss to Guinea-Bissau on Saturday.
