BCM officials ignore ANC’s call to ‘step aside’

BCM mayor Zukiswa Ncitha, council speaker Luleka Simon-Ndzele and deputy mayor Temba Tinta defied the ANC’s Luthuli House and continued with their duties at the metro today, despite being asked to “step aside”.

Ncitha arrived and stayed briefly at the meeting, saying she was going Orange Groove on another commitment. Her apology was accepted.

The ANC asked the officials to “step aside”, following their arrest and court appearance on Monday in relation to the Mandela funeral scandal.

ANC national spokesman Zizi Kodwa yesterday appealed to them to “take leave” until the case has been finalised. “All the ANC deployees must step aside, for the sake of Mandela’s name, his family and the ANC’s sake,” said Kodwa.
