Storm wreaks havoc

A storm wreaked havoc in parts of the Eastern Cape this evening, destroying stores and houses. A roof of a shop at  Mdantsane High mall was ripped off.

BCM disaster management spokesman John Fobian said much damage was reported in the King William's Town area.

“Ä house collapsed in Kusile township outside King William's Town,” he said.

Fobian said electricity cables were affected at Ilitha township. “We also received a report of a roof that was ripped off the top of the house,” he said.

Port Elizabeth based SA Weather Services forecaster Quinton Jacobs said King William's Town recorded 15.5mm of rain, which was accompanied by winds of about 50km/ h.

He said not much rain was expected for tomorrow.

However, thunder showers are expected tomorrow and Saturday.
