Ngqushwa  Municipality has come to the aid of Siphosihle Dumeduze, a Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa finalist.

Siphosihle, 16, a Grade 11 pupil at Nathaniel Pamla High School in Peddie, together with Amber-Rayne du Randt of East London (who was featured in the Daily Dispatch earlier this year) are two high school pupils representing the province in the pageant.

“Without the municipality’s help I would have probably had to pull out of the pageant because, as much as I was trying to get sponsorships and donations, it was not easy and it was looking impossible,” Siphosihle said.

“I’m so grateful because the municipality has helped me get closer to reaching my dreams.”

The Commonwealth pageant creates a platform for women of all ages to become charity and culture ambassadors in their home countries.

The triple crown consists of Miss Teen, Miss Commonwealth and Mrs Commonwealth.

Title holders get involved in charitable causes and uphold the aims and objectives of the Commonwealth, such as racial harmony, poverty eradication and cultural cohesion.

The finals will be held this Saturday in Johannesburg.

Siphosihle, one of 16 finalists in Miss Teen, has adopted Nomzamo Residential Care Centre in Peddie which helps people and children with disabilities.

Ngqushwa mayor Solomzi Ndwayana said assisting Siphosihle was part of their special programmes unit (SPU), which aims to plough back into the community.

Siphosihle’s mother, Ntombizodwa Dumeduze, extended her gratitude to the municipality, saying that it had played a role “which we will never forget and can never repay”.

lTo vote for the two Eastern Cape finalists, SMS “Siphosihle Dumeduze” or “Amber-Rayne du Randt” to 35554. Voting lines close on Friday at noon. — ziphon@dispatch.co.za
