#ConCourt trends ahead of Nkandla ruling

#ConCourt dominated social media chatter on Thursday ahead of judgment being handed down in the case about the upgrades at President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla home and who should pay for it.

Al Prodgers ?@alprodgers lamented that Twitter didn’t afford the country’s highest court the accord it merits: “Wish twitter gave unlimited characters. We should use Constitutional Court insteadof #ConCourt to give its ruling the authority it deserves.”

Most users appeared to think the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) would be successful in having the court declare as a failure of their constitutional obligations President Jacob Zuma and Parliament’s failure to implement the Public Protector’s recommendations concerning the upgrades.

TSHEPO T.S ?@sharepart repeated the four-word chant made famous by the EFF in Parliament: “Today the #ConCourt will make sure that our president #paybackthemoney”.

Loyiso Twala ?@loyisothevictor saw more significance in Thursday’s ruling: “At 10:00 today‚ the tide of South African politics will change forever. Both Zuma & Parliament at large are under fire. #ConCourt”.

#Thefundraiser ?@–phumstar was confident that “the independence of the judiciary will be kept intact today #ConCourt”‚ and continued this theme by referencing criticism of the legal system by Zuma supporters: “Those who dared call The Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng a Zuma lackey must eat humble our and apologise. #ConCourt”.

Likewise‚ Pule ?@PuleTsoute1 weighed in with: “Sad day for Zuma and his praise singers #Concourt #Nkandla @eNCA @EFFSouthAfrica”.

Seemingly confident of victory for the EFF and DA‚ ALETTAHA ? ? ? ?@ALETTAHA pondered what come next: “There can only one outcome of today’s #ConCourt = #ImpeachZuma ................. #zuma must fall #zumaMustFall @MmusiMaimane”.

|T O N E S | ?@–iTone wasn’t as sure of the outcome of Thursday’s proceedings: “anything is possible with this 1 hey. #ConCourt also knows people’s expectations‚ unfortunately it can’t be bias. I hope.”

REAL BLACK MAN ?@Hlomani–Job sarcastically suggested the president’s next move should the ruling be unfavourable: “Chances are that Zuma might still come up with another ministerial task team to investigate the outcome of the #Concourt on #Nkandla”.

Siegfried Hannig ?@SigRandburg mused on a Zuma victory in Thursday’s ruling: “Can the #ConCourt uphold its credibility & the Constitution by exonerating President & Parliament from #Nkandla corruption?”

Pablo(S) ?@PabloS58258839 decided the best thing was to laugh at how the president poked fun in Parliament at how opposition politicians pronounced the name of his homestead: “Nk-andla‚nkadla‚n-kandla‚kan-dla hehehehe... Is it funny namanje?where are the cheerleaders and spin drs #nkandla #concourt”.
