Chippa United coach Dan “Dance” Malesela has been in the game long enough to understand the pressures that come with not winning soccer games.

He also understands that he may living on borrowed time if he does not get a win soon.

On Tuesday night, Chippa sunk to their second consecutive defeat – and their fourth of the season – when beaten 1-0 by Orlando Pirates at NMB Stadium.

It has been more than a month since the Port Elizabeth side recorded a victory in the PSL.

“Firing and all of these things are part of the job,” said Malesela.

“I understand that. I have played this game for a long time and I understand what coaches are going through.

“I know some coaches who coach two weeks here and they get fired, but I doubt if this team will be in trouble at any given time.

“I mean really if we keep playing like this somewhere along the line something needs to give and I think it will be very soon.”

The former Orlando Pirates skipper, said although results were key, what was more important to him, was whether fans were entertained on match day.

“I don’t think there is anybody who left the stadium tonight not happy what he or she saw,” the coach said after Tuesday night’s game.

“So that is the primary thing and also on my side I think we have been struggling with a few things trying to find a good balance.

“Particularly in the middle of the team and slowly we are getting there. Obviously once the players get to understand each other and understand each other’s roles things will get better,” he said.

He said their biggest challenge at the moment was fixing the small errors at the back.

“You need to be confident to play but you must not be careless.

“A defender’s job should be simple. It’s the simplest job that you can ever get in a soccer match, because yours is just to mark, win the ball and pass. Finish, nothing else.

“We are training this week and we are not going to get impatient.”

Malesela said the losses had not put a damper on team spirit.

Asked if Thamsanqa Sangweni’s injury could have had an impact on the club’s performance in the middle of the park the coach replied; “Yes obviously when you make changes there will be an impact. Whether it’s negative or positive that remains to be seen.”
