20 injured in scores of accidents on wet roads

HEAVY rain over the weekend flooded low-lying homes in the Eastern Cape but most of the mayhem took place on slippery, wet roads.

At least 20 people were injured, one seriously, in more than 30 reported accidents. No fatalities were reported.

“When we woke up on Saturday morning there was water everywhere, but after the heavy rain in the afternoon it just got worse. There was no way we could have slept here,” said Snyman.

Yesterday most parts of BCM were without electricity due to planned repairs and maintenance at the Chiselhurst power station. However, some outages were caused by the bad weather.

  •   The next few days look a bit more sunny, but the wet weather is not over, according to South African Weather Services in Port Elizabeth.

While East London can expect temperatures in the low 20s this week, with little chance of rain, Mthatha can expect rain on Thursday and Friday.
