Mthatha shooting claims third victim

The mother of the two siblings shot dead in Mthatha on Sunday has also died.

“We are now going to bury four people in one day. We just pray God to give us strength and Good Samaritans come to our rescue. We are struggling to bury them,” said family spokesman Sithembiso Arosi.

Arosi’s death comes after her son Buntu Arosi, 25, and daughter Ntandokazi Arosi, 20, died when four men armed with R5s opened fire on them on Sunday night. Arosi was injured during the shooting and rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

Her husband Sazi Arosi, 49, died of natural causes almost three weeks ago.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said no arrests had been made yet. “But there is strong leads we are following and arrests will be made soon,” he said.

Sunday’s attack is suspected to have been motivated by revenge after a man was stoned to death two weeks ago.

Fatyela confirmed that a Ngangelizwe man was stoned to death two weeks ago.

Arosi family members said friends of the deceased man had accused Buntu of being involved.
