More than 100 people gathered outside the Mnquma municipal offices in protest against municipal manager Sindile Tantsi.

The protesters want Tantsi removed as they allege he is corrupt. Earlier the protesters gathered at the Butterworth police station where officials from the department of cooperative governance and traditional affairs ???.

Ndoda Mesani, chairman of the ANC subregion in Mnquma, said: "We want the municipal manager out as there is endemic corruption from him (Tantsi).

Speaking under heavy guard in the municipal offices Tantsi said he had not been approached by anyone to step down.

"Anyone who wants me to step down must come to me," he said.

Yesterday violence broke out when the two ANC factions fighting for control of the municipality's purse strings clashed.
