ANC in push to get the votes for Fort Hare SRC

In a desperate attempt to have its student organisations gain the control of the University of Fort Hare, the ANC in the province has requested that all councillors and MPLs who are students at the university be allowed to go to vote.

About 15000 the university’s East London, Alice and Bhisho campus will cast their votes tomorrow to election the new student representative council.

In a letter addressed to all the ANC chief whips, provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi requested that councillors and MPLs be afforded an opportunity to go and vote.

However, it remains unclear which organisation they will vote for as two organisations they are aligned to are pulling in different directions.

Sasco is now on its own, while the ANCYL has joined forces with the Democratic Nursing of South Africa Student Movement.

Provincial spokeswoman Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and ANCYL are scheduled to address a Sasco Siyanqoba rally on the East London campus this evening.

Provincial treasurer Babalo Madikizela is expected to address a DenosaSM/ANCYL rally on the same campus, but at the different venue.
