Rhodes University has confirmed they were investigating allegations of an alleged rape on campus.
According to a statement posted on the university’s student representative council (SRC) Facebook page this morning, the alleged rape occurred Sunday night.
However, it still remains unclear what happened exactly.
According to the university spokeswoman, Veliswa Mhlope who issued an internal statement, none of the students who provided written reports could give a clear account as to what happened.
"What we know at this stage is that both individuals who were involved disappeared immediately following the incident.
“The university is calling on anyone with information which could assist the investigation to come forward. Confidentiality and optimal professional support is guaranteed to anyone who can assist the investigation,” said Mhlope.
