The ANC is a good organisation, but there are people in it with satanic tendencies, and others who are fake friends you should be wary of.

This is what ANC national executive committee member and communications minister Nomvula Mokonyane told Eastern Cape legislature deputy speaker Mlibo Qoboshiyane at his birthday party on Saturday.

Mokonyane was speaking at Misty Mount village near Libode where Qoboshiyane and his twin sister, Mlibokazi, celebrated their birthday by handing out gifts to destitute villagers instead of receiving any themselves.

The twins gave food parcels, school shoes, blankets and other gifts to over 50 households.

They were joined by Qoboshiyane’s wife Vatiswa Qoboshiyane and water and sanitation deputy minister Pam Tshwete.

A 5km and 10km morning fun run was part of the build-up to the main celebration, and an athletics club was launched in the area.

Addressing over 150 people at the event, Mokonyane relayed best wishes to Qoboshiyane from former president Jacob Zuma. She said they had been sent via ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte, whom she had spoken to earlier that day.

“Earlier I called ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte to give her a report about the funeral of AmaMpondo queen mother which I had attended on behalf on the ANC.

“When I spoke to her, the DSG said she was with comrade Zuma and he had requested that I convey his birthday wishes to Mlibo,” said Mokonyane.

Tshwete, also an NEC member, introduced herself as “the deputy minister who was appointed by Jacob Zuma”.

She said: “Other people did not see any quality in me to make me a member of cabinet, but Zuma did. Hence I will never dump Zuma,” said Tshwete.

Qoboshiyane said he had, for the past three years, decided to celebrate his birthday in such a fashion.
