WATCH | Students blockade entrance to Ibika campus

Protesting Walter Sisulu University students have blockaded the main entrance to the Ibika campus in Butterworth with burning tyres.
The entrance to the actual premises of the university is blockaded with objects like desks, poles, material from road maintenance happening on the N2 and the tractor belonging to the university.
Students demand, among other things, maintenance of campus residences.
SRC president Lihle Klass said the decision by students to embark on a mass action was taken during a mass meeting that took place on Thursday.
“Our attempts to get the management to address our issues have failed,” he said.
He said students vowed not to return to classes until their demands were met.
University spokesperson Yonela Tukwayo said one of the struggles that rural universities/campuses had to contend with was the lack of good private accommodation that meets the standards that the Department of Higher Education and Training had set.
She said the management of the university would continue to engage with the SRC to resolve as many of their issues as possible.
“Where we cannot meet their demands we will engage in possible alternatives,” she said...
