Well-known East London physiotherapist Gerda Bence was killed in a car accident on the R72 outside Alexandria on Monday morning.

Bence, in her early 50s, according to police reports, was driving with her three dogs when she lost control of her sedan which then overturned before 7am.

Only one of the dogs survived and has been taken into the care of the local SPCA, confirmed Port Alfred police cluster spokesperson Captain Mali Govender.

Govender said Bence was driving from Port Elizabeth to East London when she lost control of her vehicle outside Alexandria.

“A case of culpable homicide is being investigated following the accident that took place this morning. It is alleged the deceased lost control of her vehicle which left road and overturned. There were three dogs with her of which two died and the third is in a care of the local SPCA,” said Govender.
