Residents help save clinic from burning down

The Pefferville clinic building caught fire on Saturday afternoon.

According to resident, Xoliswa Kepu, 50 people, including two security guards and children rushed in to douse the flames.

When the Dispatch arrived, the clinic building in the impoverished neighbourhood was closed.

Kepu said: “We heard a loud sound and smoke coming out of the clinic. We thought it was the securities burning garbage but soon realised there was a problem. We rushed in and used our buckets.”

No one was injured. “There is not much damaged, [because] we quickly put it out. No one is injured. We just hope no patient files were lost.”

Health department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo had not replied at the time of writing.
